I also STILL love that catalog....love the books that arrive b/c I *know* how the kids feel that are taking home new cheap-o books! :) We get the troll catalogs, too....but most teachers use the scholastic one now simply b/c they are the most "known" (around here at least) and also b/c they give teachers bonus points for all the books ordered. In fact, I just ordered a cheap-o ($1) book for ea. of my students for their holiday gift w/ bonus points. Awesome. LOVE the flimsy catalogs!!Bridgethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03324207209798382936noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2877454090421566197.post-49878866968045216212009-11-21T13:20:28.110-08:002009-11-21T13:20:28.110-08:00Good post. I agree about the freedom thing: let 'em read whatever they want. But I'll probably also read crap like Ovid and Herodotus and Newton to them starting around second grade or so, because why not?Rusty Spellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04192027160446175143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2877454090421566197.post-80509319630014730722009-11-21T05:24:24.302-08:002009-11-21T05:24:24.302-08:00Ah....books. I read everything I could get my hands on and bless my mom, she let me. I think that's the key. And another, as much Sendak as possible.coffeemomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12332220347018136072noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2877454090421566197.post-83388672252251294152009-11-20T19:57:46.980-08:002009-11-20T19:57:46.980-08:00Re: wanting a copy of socks just like you had as a...Re: wanting a copy of socks just like you had as a kid--my husband LOVES to find out of print or early editions of random books online for our twins...he finds most on ebay or alibris.com (alibris is a great price source no matter where you end up buying the book). Also, just yesterday he came home with this: http://www.amazon.com/1001-Childrens-Books-Must-Before/dp/0789318768 It's AMAZING ...broken up by ages. You should put that on your xmas list :-)Kat & Stacyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06771223055953137126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2877454090421566197.post-42954012241649895882009-11-20T19:21:06.851-08:002009-11-20T19:21:06.851-08:00i loved the book orders too and read a lot of fluf...i loved the book orders too and read a lot of fluff but always wanted the poster too, don't you remember that, that was such a thrill when it was delivered. now i'm a grinch with my kids and never let them order anything. i'm going to let them next time...all because of you.jillnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2877454090421566197.post-65333828213572847122009-11-20T19:10:56.172-08:002009-11-20T19:10:56.172-08:00Love this post, Lori! I haven't read "A Hole is to Dig" but I absolutely adore "I'll Be You and You Be Me" by Krauss and Sendak. I'm going to look for "A Hole is to Dig" right away!Shastahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13638392174860101275noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2877454090421566197.post-74750662043047718352009-11-20T18:02:20.609-08:002009-11-20T18:02:20.609-08:00I just sent home a Scholastic book order with my s...I just sent home a Scholastic book order with my students on this very day!

Is it weird that I still love to order books from Scholastic- and can't wait to take time to look through the catalog, salivate over all the incredible children's books and dream of one day being a published writer??Gretchenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07425898963082396240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2877454090421566197.post-22212515704482949672009-11-20T16:43:12.393-08:002009-11-20T16:43:12.393-08:00Still on my bookshelf from the scholastic book clu...Still on my bookshelf from the scholastic book club (which must be the Michigan version of the troll bookclub) Abe Lincoln Gets His Chance, Living Free and The Wizard of Oz. I have my diary from when I was this age and a great many entries are about wondering if I would have enough to order the books I wanted. My parents let me read whatever I wanted also, and I think it is why I loved to read so much, the freedom to explore whatever world my heart and mind led me to.PVZhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14159778824710454532noreply@blogger.com
