Those lives were mine to love and cherish.
To guard and guide along life's way.
Oh God forbid that one should perish.
That one alas should go astray.
Back in the years with all together,
Around the place we'd romp and play.
So lonely now and oft' times wonder,
Oh will they come back home some day.
I'm lonesome for my precious children,
They live so far away.
Oh may they hear my calling...calling..
and come back home some day.
I gave my all for my dear children,
Their problems still with love I share,
I'd brave life's storm, defy the tempest
To bring them home from anywhere.
I lived my life my love I gave them,
to guide them through this world of strife,
I hope and pray we'll live together,
In that great glad here after life.
I'm lonesome for my precious children,
They live so far away.
Oh may they hear my calling...calling.. and come back home some day.
To guard and guide along life's way.
Oh God forbid that one should perish.
That one alas should go astray.
Back in the years with all together,
Around the place we'd romp and play.
So lonely now and oft' times wonder,
Oh will they come back home some day.
I'm lonesome for my precious children,
They live so far away.
Oh may they hear my calling...calling..
and come back home some day.
I gave my all for my dear children,
Their problems still with love I share,
I'd brave life's storm, defy the tempest
To bring them home from anywhere.
I lived my life my love I gave them,
to guide them through this world of strife,
I hope and pray we'll live together,
In that great glad here after life.
I'm lonesome for my precious children,
They live so far away.
Oh may they hear my calling...calling.. and come back home some day.

I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The words to the song made me tearful too here at work this afternoon. My heart is aching for Lara Jean and Tara Carissa wishing I could once again soothe away whatever is troubling my wee ones. You never, ever get over being "Mother".
A big hug to you.
Momma
Oh, mama, the time is near. That is the most mournful song. EmmyLou Harris breaks my heart.
Oh Lori, I know how Emmylou does cut deep. Sometimes that's what the doctor ordered. Sometimes you deserve a night of good junk on Hulu. I hope you get what you need tonight!
Also, is the most loving
God has ever sounded or what?
Damn you Emmylou! I have always loved her and this song is really, really touching.
i adore her. this is the best.
My children are grown and live far away. I miss them and my grandchildren every day. I fly to visit them whenever I can afford the travel expenses, but it's never enough. This post reminds me of how precious they all are to me. Occasionaly it's good to remember how blessed we are to love our dear ones enough to feel the ache of missing them.
