I am compelled to come out of lurking because of your disclaimer, because I need to say, in capslock to convey my emphasis, THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
If I were a better person with more willpower I would avoid reading comment sections all together. They are rarely good and are usually horrifying, and yet they're such a train wreck, I can't look away. But it isn't ever helpful, and lately I have just been frustrated with the lack of responsibility or ownership that people/news stations/CNN are taking over their websites by allowing these places to continue. If people need to share their opinions there are plenty of free blogging services where they can do just that. Allowing rampant and unmoderated comments is ridiculous, and I'm sick of watching people provide a space for that kind of negativity and toxic behavior.
