Walking on Sunshine. Woah-Oh.

I was finding it hard to take January in Portland much longer, so when our friend Susan (who has a book coming out in March, which you can pre-order here) suggested we come down to Los Angeles for a stopover for a few days before the big trip to visit my family in Mississippi, this light went off in my head and we were on an airplane that afternoon.

It sounds like a cliche, but truly: I think I was forgetting what clear blue skies look like. Some images from our last few days:

A day so clear we could see Catalina Island from Mount Wilson. Unbelievably beautiful.

Who's a cheeseball? We are cheeseballs! Can anyone tell that Abe has had a haircut? (by me, while in the bath, unable to comb out the dreads).

This is why people live in Southern California: a morning in January.

It's Los Angeles. We spend a lot of time in the car. Abe naps here often.

Sweetness. Abe calls these "Oh-nos" (oranges) and eats at least 5 or 6 daily.

The other day in Target in rainy, snowy, wintry Portland, Abe started saying "happy." I've called Target my "happy place" for a while now, so what kismet this boy has. Here, he demonstrates his new word:

And now off to Mississippi for hushpuppies and fried catfish with my deer-hunting relatives. Yum.

Okay, the sight of all that sunshine is making me unbearably jealous!!

Enjoy your hushpuppies and fried catfish. Out of interest, what do you do with the whiskers on a catfish? They freak me out a bit. Do you eat them??

Ok, that video is just soooo precious! It brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful family you are. I just love you guys! Too much! Lovin' the cheeseball picture too.

Abe is a genius! Total genius!!

Enjoy your trip and enjoy some southern goodness for me too. I'm hoping we'll be able to make a trip down south this summer. I'm crossing my fingers! Three years is tooooo long!

And an answer to Caroline (above) about the whiskers. Um. No, I've never eaten a catfish whisker. I have caught, cleaned, fried, and eaten alot of catfish. But never a whisker. ;) Maybe there's a more adventurous person out there? I'm sure of it.

Love to you, my friend. Safe and happy travels!!!

Darling "happy" video, great family pic and hope you have a great trip. It's cloudy but no rain here today. I keep telling myself it's better than the snow. :)

I'm totally jealous that you are in the sun right now. We had a couple rays of sun peeking through our window today and I felt like a plant as I stretched my neck to soak as much of it up as I could! Glad you guys are having such a nice time in CA. Have fun down south!

Mimi & I have watched Abe's video 2 dozen times! She attempts to say "happy" right along with him, but it seems that her tongue keeps getting in the way! ;-) Hope to see you guys on your next visit to LALA land!
