Quirky

When Ted and I decided we were ready to become parents, we started watching various kids we'd encounter to see which ones we liked best (I realize how horrible this sounds). Our favorite ones were usually not of the simply cute variety. We really dug the quirky ones, the kind of weird ones, the ones who said things that didn't make a lot of sense and who made strange faces and who had offbeat mannerisms. We'd sometimes look at each other and nod, one of us saying, "Exactly, one like that one."

In the last month of knowing Abe, we have quickly seen that the cute part is pretty much taken care of:
We've been discovering that he's pretty expressive. This is the face he makes when he realizes that I've started singing to him. He doesn't even care what the song is, which is good since I've been singing "The Lumberjack Song" a lot lately:

This is the face he makes when he sees that you're coming at him with a washcloth. I've been calling this his Zoolander face:

This last week, we couldn't be happier to discover that the quirky faces are making their way out in full force:
The above two are the ones he does most often. It's easy to get pictures of these because he makes this face all the time, especially in the grocery store. I can't ignore it. He looks at me, makes this face, and smiles eagerly as if to say, "C'mon! Do it, Momma! Do it!" So I do it back, which makes him do it again too. I can't help it. Eh, who cares what the other shoppers think? So yes, this how you would most likely find me these days while picking out raisin bran:
He's also really good at showing his excitement about certain things:

And he's pretty good at being subtle when he's after something:
(he and this other little boy actually ended up in a mild little tussle over this toy)

And best of all, some faces come out of nowhere. We really have no idea what they mean. I think we hit the quirky jackpot with Abe. These faces are God's special gift to us. We're expecting great things from him:

And finally, because everyone loves a video, here's Abe pretending to be sleepy:

Three peas in a pod- no doubt about it. My personal favorite has to be the one with the toy- although the cute one at the top is pretty darn amazing. AND the one of Lori showing the world what she looks like while searching for raisin bread, well, that almost outshone the others. Almost.

Kevin and I are cracking up at the last picture! I love it! They're all so great. And, I love that someone else feels the need to post goofy pictures of their child too. (I find these the most fun :)

How could I ever, ever, ever pass up a little Abe (and Lori) time! Let's have a play-date (you'll have to get used to that one...I did) soon! We are off to the beach and I'll be in touch really soon. We totally lucked out with a quirky boy too! Isn't it great! I love when strangers look at him and I know they are thinking, "Thank God our child isn't that weird." Autumn

Okay, how absolutely precious is this post?! First, may I say... I want my OWN giggle time!!! :D And the faces... they crack me up. What a boy you have. I love the faces he makes. And they're quite contagious too, as proved by your picture. :) I'm making my own quirky (and not quite as cute, I admit) face as I type this.

LOVE the pics & the video!! Thanks, Lori!

Lori,
This posting is the BEST!! What a special little guy you have there. I love the video clip, too, of his "sleepy" playtime. You will cherish that clip for many years. We have one that Amy took of Sophie where Amy is trying to get her to say, "Mama" and all she would say was "Dadda". I just watched it the other day -- hilarious -- and Sophie will be 3 years old in June!!
I have been keeping up with all your postings, but just haven't commented lately -- just couldn't resist this time. Shelia (Amy's mom - in case you forgot who I was.)

Love the visual of the two of you making the silly face at one another in the store, sorry to tell you Mom but Abe's is better. My favorite is his expression when you sing, not sure if he is glad about it or not.

Love,

I've already commented but I had to come by to tell you that I'm laughing so hard I'm crying right now at the caption you left at our blog. I was thinking the exact same thing - about the sh*tting pacifiers! I love it!

Love it!

I love how he is half sucking his thumb in the video. He is a doll! I am beyond thrilled that he is with you guys. I am not blog checking as much as I use to but it seems like yesterday you guys got the horrible court news. It is such an AMAZING thing to look at your blog and see HIM HOME WITH YOU! Praise THE LORD!

Who says God isn't in the details??? You all are a wacky match made in heaven! He is so funny, and I love all of his facial expressions. And the giggle video is so great -- how fun that you got a giggler! It's astonishing to me how much he's already filled out. He's got one good mama looking after him!
