On the brink of toddler-dom

We found this trike at a garage sale this morning, but Abe's legs aren't long enough yet to reach the ground enough so he can propel himself forward. Instead, he's figured out how to do this with it:

And this photo is one of my recent favorites. These two girls come running down the street yelling for "Abey-baby" every time they see us outside. One day last week, we were inside eating dinner with our front door open, and they were standing in front of our house calling for Abe until one of their parents yelled for them to stop and leave us alone. Today they read this book to Abe and brought him a toy to play with, as our neighbor cat came over too from across the street to join in. We feel pretty lucky.

And that, my lovely friend, is why I think of Abe as innovative. Smart as a whip, that one. Give him some extra big hugs from his Auntie C (yes... I've decided that I'm his Auntie C) and tell him that I think he is incredible.

I just love seeing how innovative kids can be when it come to toys and a sheer determination to play with them no matter what.

We live in a similar neighborhood. Pretty tight knit. It seems like it's becoming more and rare these days for neighbors to even talk to each other across the bacyard fence, so we feel pretty lucky too. It gets loud at times with all the kids, but that's what kids do. The best remedy I've found, is to go outside and play with them.

Love the kids coming and yelling at the door. Nice to know that still exists, that is the sort of neighborhood I grew up in myself.
