Ishmael Beah

I just finished this afternoon an amazing book, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, by Ishmael Beah. I found myself last night sobbing at the resiliency the human spirit and the redemption that is found through the consistent, selfless love from compassionate aid workers.

Highly, highly, highly recommended. Here, you can watch a short interview with the author.

can't wait to read that... thanks for the reminder. also, about the product... i think that, um, walmart would have it. you might need to take the plunge. what about ordering it off the internet? haven't tried that yet. i think it's not in white people stores. that would be stupid, b/c white hair doesn't need it. but this stuff rocks! hope you find some :).

I picked this book for our book club about a year ago. Completely amazing. I can't believe what he endured and then to be such a fantastic person on the other side of it. What an inspiration for sure.

i've lurked here a time or two...and am emerging to say that I LOVE this book too. It played an instrumental part in beginning to break our hearts and open our eyes in a way that led to the eventual adoption of our twins from Sierra Leone.

Blessings on your beautiful family! Love stopping by here...

This is one of those books that rips you up and tears your heart, even as you keep turning the pages. Then you just want to know how he's doing now.... Well worth a read, despite the incredible hardness of it all. M

Lori I read this about 6 months ago too and loved it. Super moving, hard to read, but completely worth reading. Such and incredible story.

I am crazy about his guy. I also just read the book & really loved it (even though it was very difficult). We are the same age, which makes it more real to me. I may link this post on my blog if that is okay. Love, J

Now you have to read "They Poured Fire On Us From the Sky: The True Story of Three Lost Boys from Sudan". I found myself just shaking my head in disbelief, that these young boys could survive all that they went through...it was amazing. I think you would really like it!
